【Main ingredient】Neomycin Sulfate 

【Characters】This product is an off-white to pale yellow powder.

【Pharmacological actions】

Pharmacodynamics  Neomycin belongs to the aminoglycoside class of antibacterial agents, with an antibacterial spectrum similar to that of kanamycin.  It has a powerful antibacterial effect on most Gram-negative rods such as Escherichia coli, proteus species, Salmonella and Pasteurella multocida, and is also sensitive to Staphylococcus aureus.  Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Gram-positive bacteria (except Staphylococcus aureus), rickettsiae, anaerobic bacteria and fungi are resistant to this product.

Pharmacokinetics   Neomycin is rarely absorbed by internal and topical application, only 3% of the total amount is excreted in the urine after internal administration and most of it is excreted in the faeces without change. Absorption may be increased in the presence of inflammation or ulceration of the intestinal mucosa. Injectable administration is rapidly absorbed and the in vivo process is similar to that of kanamycin.

【Drug interaction】

(1) Used in combination with macrolide antibiotics to treat mastitis due to gram-positive bacteria.

(2) Internal administration may interfere with the absorption of digitalis, vitamin A or vitamin B12.

(3) Synergistic effects with penicillins or cephalosporins.

(4) The antibacterial effect of this product is enhanced in an alkaline environment. Combining with alkaline drugs (e.g. sodium bicarbonate, aminophylline, etc.) can enhance the antibacterial effect, but toxicity is also enhanced accordingly. When the pH exceeds 8.4, the antibacterial effect is weakened.

(5) Cations such as Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺, Na⁺, NH₄⁺ and K⁺ can inhibit the antibacterial activity of this product.

(6) Combination with cephalosporins, dextran, potent diuretics (e.g. furosemide, etc.) and erythromycin may enhance the ototoxicity of this product.

(7) Skeletal muscle relaxants (e.g. succinylcholine chloride, etc.) or drugs with such effects may enhance the neuromuscular blocking effect of this product.

【Effect and use】

 Aminoglycoside antibiotic. Primarily for the treatment of gastrointestinal infections caused by avian sensitive gram-negative bacteria.

【Usage and dosage】

Calculated with this product. Mixed drinking: 0.15~0.23g per 1L of water for poultry. 3-5

 consecutive days .

【Untoward effect】

Neomycin is the most toxic of the aminoglycosides, but toxic reactions rarely occur with internal administration or local area medication.

【Cautions】

（1）Prohibited during egg-laying period.

（2）This product may affect the absorption of vitamin A and vitamin B12 when taken internally.
